Their End Stories...
A young girl is a member of the Club that has shown improvement since coming to the Club recently. She has anxiety and depression problems. She is now more active and has increased her self-esteem and feels much better.
Barb* entered the shelter fearing for her life, after the daily verbal/emotional abuse she was experiencing from her live-in partner turned volatile. Barb had custody of her teenaged granddaughter and also feared for the girl’s safety. Staff helped them develop safety and service plans, which included short and long-term goals. They participated in individual and group sessions to learn the dynamics of domestic violence and receive support throughout their journey toward self-sufficiency and violence-free living. Barb worked diligently to find safe, affordable housing and after 5 weeks in the shelter, was able to move into her own apartment with her granddaughter.

Emily* went to the emergency room after being beaten by her live-in boyfriend. She received immediate crisis intervention from a Center Medical Advocate who also referred her to our Order of Protection (OP) office at the Tazewell County Courthouse. Within hours of leaving the hospital, Emily sought help at the courthouse. Court Advocates helped develop a safety plan, prepared court documentation and accompanied her before the judge to petition for an Emergency OP. Emily’s abuser was arrested and domestic battery charges were filed. Emily continues to receive support services while she awaits her follow-up court hearing for a Plenary (long-term) OP.
